New York City has joined the ranks of over two dozen states by prohibiting TikTok on government-owned devices due to security worries. Concerns stem from the app’s Chinese ownership, which officials fear could compromise sensitive user data. The city’s Cyber Command has flagged the app as a security threat to its technical networks. The ban requires city agencies to remove TikTok from devices and networks within 30 days. This restriction mainly affects official devices, with TikTok challenging a similar state-level ban in Montana on constitutional grounds. TikTok declined to comment on the NYC ban.
