Woman Arrested After Driving Car Into Building Misidentified as Jewish School

An Indiana woman has been arrested after allegedly plowing her car into a building that she believed was a Jewish school, but was actually associated with the Black Hebrew Israelites in Indianapolis.

Ruba Almaghtheh, 34, reportedly backed her vehicle into the building, which houses the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge, late Friday while several adults and children were inside.

Almaghtheh later confessed that she targeted the building because she was offended by a “Hebrew Israelite” symbol displayed outside.

When questioned by police, Almaghtheh admitted to her intent, saying, “Yes, I did it on purpose.” She repeatedly referred to the building as the “Israel school” and made a reference to “her people back in Palestine.”

However, the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge is a sect of the Black Hebrew Israelites, as confirmed by the Anti-Defamation League.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis clarified that while a Jewish facility was not the intended target, the incident serves as a reminder to maintain security protocols and remain vigilant against suspicious activity.

Safe Indiana, a Jewish community security program, is collaborating with law enforcement to investigate the incident.

Police labeled Almaghtheh as a “terrorist” and arrested her on a preliminary charge of criminal recklessness. She is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Wednesday.

The incident underscores the importance of maintaining security measures and promptly reporting suspicious activities to the authorities to ensure the safety of the community.
