Sweden Fined Activist Greta Thunberg Again

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been fined again on Wednesday, October 11 for protesting at the port of Malmö. Thunberg was fined 2,250 Swedish krona ($206) in addition to 1,500 Swedish krona ($144) for refusing to obey police orders when taking part in a similar demonstration the previous month on June 24

On September 15, 20-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg was charged with disobedience to law enforcement after she refused to obey police officers instructing her to leave the scene. She was subsequently physically removed by two uniformed officers.

Thunberg has acknowledged the events but claims she is not guilty. She argues that her actions were a form of self-defense in response to the existential and global threat posed by the climate crisis and the need to combat the fossil fuel industry.

Thunberg was protesting against the use of fossil fuels at the port on June 24, 2023, when she was ordered to leave by police. She refused and was subsequently fined. She appealed the fine, but the appeal was rejected.

”We have the science on our side and we have morality on our side. Nothing in the world can change that and so it is. I am ready to act based on the conditions that exist and whether it leads to more sentences,” she said after the verdict from the Swedish Government

Thunberg has said that she will continue to protest against fossil fuels, even if she is fined or arrested. She has also said that she is not afraid of the police.

Thunberg has previously been fined for protesting at the port of Malmö, and has also been detained by police for similar protests in other parts of Sweden.

In a statement, Thunberg said that she was not surprised by the fine, but that she would continue to protest against the use of fossil fuels.

“I will continue to do whatever it takes to fight for climate justice,” she said. “We cannot afford to wait any longer.”

The fining of Thunberg is also a reminder of the challenges that climate activists face. Climate activists are often arrested, harassed, and intimidated. However, they continue to speak out against climate change, even in the face of adversity.
