Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade won her second world vault gold medal in Antwerp on Saturday, as US star Simone Biles took silver after a fall during the final.

Andrade, who won the Olympic vault title last year, averaged 14.750 for her two vaults to beat Biles by 0.200.

Biles, who was competing in her first world championships since 2019, had a strong first vault but fell on her second.

She still managed to finish second with an average of 14.550, but it was Andrade who took the gold.

“I’m so happy,” said Andrade. “I worked really hard for this moment. I’m so proud of myself.”

Biles was also gracious in defeat.

“Rebeca did a great job today,” she said. “She’s an amazing athlete and I’m happy for her.”

Andrade’s victory is a major achievement for Brazilian gymnastics. She is the first Brazilian gymnast to win two world gold medals, and her success is inspiring a new generation of athletes in her country.

Andrade’s comeback

Andrade’s victory is even more remarkable given that she has had to overcome a number of injuries in recent years.

She tore her ACL in 2019 and missed the world championships. She also had a number of other setbacks, but she always managed to come back stronger.

“I’ve never given up,” she said. “I knew that if I kept working hard, I would eventually achieve my goals.”

Biles’ return

Biles’ silver medal is also a significant achievement. She has been out of competition for over a year due to mental health issues, but she showed that she is still one of the best gymnasts in the world.

“I’m happy to be back competing,” she said. “I’m not where I want to be yet, but I’m getting there.”
