Priyanka Chaturvedi Responds to Amit Shah’s Statements on Women’s Reservation Bill Quota

Coming down strongly on Union Minister Amit Shah for his explanation of the rationale behind the formation of the committee debate amid opposition calls to adopt the Proposed Women Quota Law. The Opposition Party Shiva Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said on Wednesday that his statement was hypocritical as the promise made by the BJP in the 2014 manifesto for a women’s Reservation Bill has taken a long time to implement and took nine years to clear the first legislative hurdle in Parliament.
- Union Minister Amit Shah said earlier on Wednesday, during the debate while talking about the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, that the census and delimitation exercises would be conducted after the Lok Sabha polls next year, and the women’s reservation law quota bill would come into effect.
- The census, which has been delayed since 2021, is not likely to happen this year either. My sense is that the delivery won’t take place before 2029. Things might get moving the following year, as a new census is expected in 2031. They are merely using the bill as a carrot to lure women. Voters will see through their ploy and teach them a lesson in 2024. The Sena MP, Priyanka Chaturvedi, said
- The Women Reservation Bill has a 33% quota for women in the Loksabha, and the state has assembled it in the lower house as part of the legislative agenda for the ongoing Special Session of the Parliament.
- The census and the delimitation exercises will be conducted soon after the next general elections, and women might have a greater voice in Parliament, said Union Minister Amit Shah. In 2008, Manmohan Singh Led the UPA government and implemented the Bill in The Rajya Sabha.
- The Women’s Reservation Bill was approved by the Union Cabinet on Monday, and the stage is set for the Women’s Reservation Bill to be tabled in Parliament. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal first introduced the Women Reservation Bill in the First sitting of the New Parliament building and named it ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.’
