The Chess World Cup Final 2023 was held in Baku, Azerbaijan. A young 18-year-old Indian chess grandmaster player, Praggnanandhaa, was runner-up, and Five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen secured the First FIDE World Cup. Praggnanandhaa fell to an agonizing defeat against World No. 1 in Chess.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “We are proud of Praggnanandhaa for his remarkable performance at the FIDE World Cup! He showcased his exceptional skills and gave a tough fight to the formidable Magnus Carlsen in the finals. This is no small feat. Wishing him the very best for his upcoming tournaments.”

Who are Praggnanandhaa and Magnus Carlsen?

Praggnanandhaa’s full name was Ramesh Babu. Praggnanandhaa is an Indian chess grandmaster. A chess prodigy, he became an international master at the age of 10. At the age of 12, he became the youngest grandmaster in the world. He is the second youngest grandmaster in the world.

Achievements of Praggnanadhaa

  • Praggnanandhaa won the World Youth Chess Championship Under-8 title in 2013.
  • In 2015 he won the Under-10 title.
  • He won the FIDE Master.
  • In 2016 Praggnanandhaa became the youngest international master in history at the age of 10 years.
  • He achieved his first grandmaster norm at the World Junior Chess Championship in November 2017.
  • In 2023 Chess World Cup. Praggnanandha, 18 years old, became the first youngest world chess player to reach the Chess World Cup final match.

Sven Magnus Oen Carlsen is a Norwegian Chess Grandmaster, and he was born on November 30, 1990, in Tonsberg, Norway. He is a five-time World Chess Champion, a four-time World Rapid Chess Champion, and a six-time World Blitz Chess Champion. Recently, the Chess World Cup 2023 was held in Baku, Azerbaijan. His remarkable performance against Praggnanandhaa in the final match won his first FIDE World Cup title.
