Oct 12, Banglore: In a tragic incident, a father allegedly killed his elder daughter for being in a relationship with a young man from a lower caste in Bidalur village, Devanahalli taluk, Rural District, Karnataka.
The father, Manjunath, who owns a chicken shop, was unhappy about his daughter Kavana’s inter-caste relationship and had warned her repeatedly to end it. Kavana, aged 20 and a second-year degree student, belonged to the Nayaka caste, while her boyfriend was from the Scheduled Caste in Yaliyur village.
Following a heated argument at home one night, the father used a sickle from his chicken shop to harm his daughter, ultimately leading to her tragic death.
The police promptly arrested the accused upon receiving the news, and a murder case (Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code) has been filed, with an ongoing investigation.
Notably, this family was dealing with another challenging romantic relationship. Manjunath’s third daughter was also involved in a love affair, leading to police intervention.
Following discussions with the authorities, the 17-year-old daughter was placed in a government care center after refusing to return home due to her inter-caste relationship, which her family also opposed.
