At the G20 Summit last month, United States President Joe Biden and other country leaders expressed their concern to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the Canadian government’s claim that New Delhi has been involved in the killing of the Sikh separatist leader. Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States all denounced the assassination of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar directly with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

  • United States President Joe Biden and the other leaders expressed their deep concerns at the G20 Summit after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged the allies to intervene directly with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau said that we call upon the Government of India to take this matter seriously and to work with us to shed full transparency and ensure accountability and justice in this matter.
  • We are a country of the rule of law. We are going to continue to do the work necessary to keep Canadians safe and to uphold our values and the international rules-based order. That’s our focus right now. Justin Trudeau said:
  • Canadian Justin Trudeau said in his response to the issue We are standing for the rule of law or highlighting how unacceptable it would be for any country to be involved in the killing of a citizen on its own soil.
  • I think it is important that the country has a strong and independent justice system and that we allow those processes to unfold themselves with the utmost integrity. But I assure you that this decision to share these allegations on the floor in the House of Commons on Monday morning was not made lightly and was done with the utmost seriousness. Canadian PM Justin Trudeau said

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Thursday that his country stands by international laws and that there are credible reasons to believe the agents of the Government of India were involved in the killing of the Canadians on Canadian soil. There is something of utmost foundational importance in a country’s rule of law in a world where international rules are in order. We have rigorous,  independent judges and robust processes.
