The import of Tablets, laptops, all-in-one computers, small form factor computers, and servers falling under HSN 8741 is restricted. The government has released a notification that only valid licenses can be used for the import of the devices. and if the valid license is not there, then it’s not allowed to bring in the bags.
Why the Indian government released a notification to restrict the import of laptops and tablets
The reason behind the government’s decision to restrict the import of laptops and tablets is to help boost the local manufacturing sector. By importing devices, there is a loss for manufacturing, so the government took the decision soon and implemented it on Thursday. But New Delhi was not given a detailed explanation about the restriction on imports.
In the month of May, the Modi government unveiled a $2 billion scheme aimed at promoting locally built hardware like laptops, PCs, servers, and related edge computer kits. The government is willing to spend $892 million to upgrade the previous program for development.
