Rescue efforts are underway following a significant landslide in Shimla.
Himachal Pradesh Landslides: Throughout this monsoon season, almost 9,600 homes have been damaged by 170 landslides and cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh. Solan, Shimla, Mandi, Hamirpur, and Kangra are among of the areas that have been severely damaged. More than 500 people were left trapped in Mand, Kangra, by flash floods caused by the discharge of water from the Pong dam. There have been reports of five houses collapsing in the Baldwara neighborhood of Mandi district.
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are still suffering from the effects of the rain. In the midst of nonstop rain, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted “heavy to very heavy rains” for the upcoming 24 hours and has issued a “red alert” for various areas in both Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The “red alert” will ultimately change to a “orange alert,” according to the meteorological service. Due to extended periods of rain, the hill states are seeing a series of disasters. The number of people killed in Himachal Pradesh as a result of recent rains has increased to 71. Landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts are causing significant property damage, fatalities, and evictions.
In Haridwar, the Ganga River at the Bhimgoda Barrage began to recede and was running at 292.65 meters, just a little below the 293-meter alert threshold.
A structure collapsed on Tuesday in Helang in the Chamoli district, close to Joshimath, which has been affected by subsidence; three persons were recovered, while some more are reportedly still missing and perhaps trapped under the rubble.

As State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officers worked to securely extract the remaining trapped people from the building, additional information officer for the district Ravindra Negi stated that those who had been rescued had been sent to a hospital.
Since the beginning of the monsoon, the issue has gotten worse after soil subsidence destroyed numerous homes in Joshimath earlier this year.
Illegal constructions in Mandi, McLeod Ganj, and Shimla have created a dangerous situation. Houses piled recklessly, staying for disaster. These man-made blunders have been a major cause of recent tragedies and deaths in Himachal Pradesh. It’s pivotal for the government to take action before the brewing disaster strikes.
