Magnitude 6.9 Earthquake Strikes Banda Sea Region in Indonesia

November 8: On Wednesday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 struck the Banda Sea region in Indonesia, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The earthquake occurred 370 km (229.9 miles) southeast of Ambon, Indonesia, and was estimated to have a depth of 146 km.

Despite the significant magnitude of the earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) assured that there was no threat of a tsunami resulting from this seismic event. It’s worth noting that the EMSC initially reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 6.8.

Indonesia, located in the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire, frequently experiences earthquakes and volcanic eruptions due to the movement of tectonic plates in the region. Authorities and organizations in the area remain vigilant and prepared to respond to seismic events and other natural disasters to ensure public safety.
