KYIV, Nov 3: Russia launched a large-scale drone attack on Friday, targeting crucial infrastructure in western and southern Ukraine. The attack caused significant damage to private houses and commercial buildings in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city.
The Ukrainian air force reported shooting down 24 “Shahed” drones out of the 40 launched by Russia.
This attack marked one of the largest drone offensives in weeks, targeting not only Kharkiv but also Odesa and Kherson in the south, along with the Lviv region on Ukraine’s western border with Poland. One X-59 missile was also intercepted.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that they anticipate more damage as winter approaches and that they would respond to the enemy’s actions. Air defenses were active in ten different regions during the attack.

The recent Russian drone attack targeted Ukraine’s energy system, which officials warn is more vulnerable than last year due to reduced excess capacity and a lack of spare equipment.
The Air Force reported that the drones were launched in multiple waves and flew to various regions in smaller groups. Air alerts in some areas lasted for several hours throughout the night.
In Lviv, the governor, Maksym Kozytskiy, stated that an infrastructure facility in his region was struck five times during the attacks, but he did not provide details about the damage, and no casualties were reported.
In the nearby region of Ivano-Frankivsk, a military facility was also hit, according to Governor Svitlana Onishchuk.
