Wildfire Sweeps Through Southern California, Forcing Evacuations and Destroying Structures
Published on November 1, 2023, 21:00 GMT
A massive wildfire dubbed the Highland Fire is spreading rapidly in southern California, forcing thousands of people to evacuate. The fire broke out on Monday afternoon near the town of Aguanga, and has since grown to over 2,400 acres. It is currently 10% contained.
The Highland Fire is being fueled by strong Santa Ana winds, which are expected to continue blowing throughout the week. This makes it difficult for firefighters to control the flames, and increases the risk of the fire spreading to new areas.
Evacuation orders have been issued for mandatory evacuation orders and warnings for areas in and around Aguanga, as well as parts of Highway 79. Residents who are under evacuation orders are urged to leave immediately.
If you are in the area, please stay tuned to local media outlets for the latest information on the fire. You can also find updates on the Riverside County Fire Department website and social media pages.
