Morawiecki Claims "Islamic Migrants" Pose a Security Threat to Poland

Oct 12, WARSAW: Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has warned of the presence of “Islamic fighters” among migrants entering the country

“In this great wave of migration there will be Islamic fighters, terrorists, thousands of young men will migrate to Europe,” Mateusz Morawiecki told a press conference.

The governing nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party is emphasizing its anti-immigrant stance in the lead-up to the national election on October 15. They have firmly opposed the European Union’s quota system for relocating irregular migrants among member states, and a referendum on this issue is being conducted alongside the election.

“We know that among the migrants there are Islamic fighters,” Morawiecki said. “We know that they are being used by Russia and Belarus to destabilize the European Union.”

Morawiecki’s remarks come at a time of heightened tensions between Poland and Belarus. Belarus has been accused of deliberately sending migrants to Poland in an attempt to destabilize the country.

Poland has responded by building a fence on the Polish-Belarusian border and by deploying troops to the border.

Morawiecki’s remarks are also likely to further divide the Polish public on the issue of migration. Poland has been one of the most vocal critics of migration in Europe, and Morawiecki has repeatedly claimed that migrants pose a security threat to the country.

However, many Poles believe that migrants should be welcomed and that Poland has a moral obligation to help them.

It is important to note that there is no evidence to support Morawiecki’s claim that there are “Islamic fighters” among the migrants entering Poland. There have been no reports of any terrorist attacks or attempted terrorist attacks by migrants in Poland.

It is also important to note that Morawiecki’s remarks come ahead of Poland’s general election, which is scheduled to be held in October 2023. Morawiecki’s ruling Law and Justice party is facing a tough challenge from the opposition, and Morawiecki’s remarks may be an attempt to appeal to Polish voters who are concerned about immigration.

The issue of migration is a complex one, and there is no easy solution. It is important to have a factual and informed discussion about migration and to avoid making generalizations about migrants based on their religion or origin.
