China to Hold Third Belt and Road Forum Next Week
China will hold its third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing next week, with a focus on high-quality development and joint prosperity.
The forum, which will be held from next week October, is expected to attract leaders from over 130 countries and international organizations.
The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), also known as One Belt One Road (OBOR), is a massive infrastructure development project launched by China in 2013. The BRI aims to connect China with countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East through a network of roads, railways, ports, and other infrastructure projects.
“Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the forum and deliver a keynote speech,” foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said.
He will also “hold a welcome banquet for foreign leaders and heads of international organisations attending the forum”, she added.
Countries will take part in celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Beijing’s vast infrastructure initiative.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has also said he will attend the meeting and China and Russia will discuss about the war in Ukraine, They might also discuss their partnership in economic and military cooperation.
The BRI has been controversial, with some critics accusing China of using the initiative to expand its influence and geopolitical power. However, China has defended the BRI, saying that it is a win-win initiative that will benefit all participating countries.
The upcoming Belt and Road Forum is expected to focus on high-quality development and joint prosperity. This suggests that China is shifting its focus from simply building infrastructure to building sustainable and inclusive development projects.
The forum is also expected to focus on green development and digitalization. These are two areas that China is investing heavily in, and they are also two areas that are important for developing countries.
The Belt and Road Forum is a significant event for China and for the world. It is an opportunity for China to showcase its leadership on global development issues and to strengthen its ties with other countries. It is also an opportunity for other countries to benefit from China’s investments and expertise.
The third Belt and Road Forum will be an important opportunity to assess the progress of the BRI and to discuss its future direction. The forum will also be an opportunity for China and other countries to work together to ensure that the BRI is a mutually beneficial initiative.
