49 Dead After Russian Missile Hits Supermarket in Kharkiv Region

October 6, 2023, Kharkiv, Ukraine Live: – A Russian missile struck a supermarket in the Kupiansk district of Kharkiv region on Tuesday, killing at least 49 people and injuring dozens more, according to Ukrainian officials.

The attack occurred in the town of Shevchenkove, which is located about 100 kilometers east of the city of Kharkiv. The missile struck the supermarket as it was crowded with shoppers, and many of the victims are believed to be civilians.

“The Russians are targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement. “Zelenskiy warns Europe: Russia will attack others if Ukraine loses.”

US President Joe Biden acknowledges his concerns about domestic political turmoil potentially jeopardizing American aid to Ukraine. He implores Republicans to cease their internal disputes and support the “critically important” assistance to Kyiv.

The attack on the supermarket is the latest in a series of Russian strikes on civilian targets in Ukraine. In recent weeks, Russian missiles have struck hospitals, schools, and apartment buildings, killing hundreds of civilians.
