2023 Bypolls Commence in 7 States: Major Showdown for India’s Political Landscape

The BJP-led alliance and the Opposition India Bloc are ready to face the six states that voted today for the vacant assembly seats to fill, and the by-elections are being held in the six states with the seven seats. The bypolls are in Dhupguri, Puthuppally, Bageshwar, Dumri, and Boxanagar. In these places, the by-polls are necessitated due to the deaths of the sitting MLAs. In Dhanpur and Ghosi, these MLAs’ resignations led to fresh polls.
- The demise of Left Party Legislator Samsul Haque The seat is vacant in Boxanagar. The BJP and CPM are in the running for this vacant seat.
- BJP Pratima Bhoumik resigned to retain the Lok Sabha seat; by this, the assembly seat is vacant, and the BJP party has fielded Bindu Debnath for that seat, and the CPM fielded Kaushik Chanda for that seat in Dhanpur.
- Dara Singh Chauhan, the Samajwadi Party leader, resigned his MLA seat in the Ghosi and joined the BJP. Dara Singh is currently in the BJP party, and he is against his former party, Sudhakar Singh, which is also backed by the Congress Party.
- The polling of the seats begins today in Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, Dhupguri in West Bengal, Puthuppally in Kerala, Bageshwar in Uttarakhand, Dumri in Jharkhand, Boxanagar, and Dhanpur in Tripura. The seven-seat votes will be counted on September 8.
- After the formation of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance by the opposition parties, it would be the first election, and the parties would contest the elections together as far as possible.
- The death of BJP leader Bishnupada Roy The seat is vacant in Dhupguri, and the BJP has fielded Tapsai Roy against Trinamool leaders Nirmal Chandra Roy and Ishwar Chandraya Roy.
After the demise of BJP party MLA Ram Dass, the BJP party has fielded his wife Parwati against the Congress Party’s Basant Kumar and the Samajwadi Party’s Bhagawati Prasad. The seat was left after Oommen Chandy’s death The Congress has fielded the veteran leader, Chandy Oommen, against CPM Jaick C. Thomas in the Puthuppally voting. The seat was left vacant by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA Jagannath Mahto in Dumri, and the state ruling party has fielded his wife Bebi Devi under the banner of India against the NDA party’s Yashoda Devi and AIMIM Abdul Rizvi.
